Webinar Description:
We all know there are two methods for obtaining knowledge to improve our practice with families and facilitate healing: evidence based practice and practice based evidence. But oftentimes, evidence based practice receives most of the press and attention. This webinar will offer reasons why there needs to be equal weight given to practice based evidence from my own reflective practice and my practice based research. Examples will be offered of insights, reflections, and learning that only occurred from begin engaged in clinical practice.
At the end of this Webinar, participants will have had the opportunity to:
- Understand the upsides/downsides of knowledge obtained from Evidence Based Practice and Practice Based Evidence to assist families who are suffering.
- Be familiar with examples of Practice Based Evidence knowledge from three different sources.
- Recognize the powerful learning that can occur from paradigm moments and paradigm families in our clinical practice.

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SWEDEN
Dr. Eva Benzein, professor, Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden received a multi-million dollar award from the Kamprad Family Foundation to establish a palliative care center with an emphasis on family-focused care. The Kamprad Family Foundation was established by the owners of Ikea.
In her role as project leader, Dr. Benzein has been awarded $796,000 US funds for 2012 and funding will continue until 2017. The “Palliative Care Center for Co-created Care” will be located in the region of Småland where Linnaeus University is situated. The main goal of the Center will be to establish a program of research that practically implements research results so that many people can benefit from these findings quickly and cost-efficiently. The underpinning philosophy for the Center is a systemic approach with a focus on the family. All staff in the region of Småland working in palliative care will be educated in this philosophy. A Board of patients and their family members will be established in order to ensure that a family perspective will be the driving force in all activities within the Center.
Dr. Benzein is a member of the International Family Nursing Association and has co-lead the development of family-focused care in Sweden. She and her colleagues, Dr. Margaretha Hagberg and Dr. Britt-Inger Saveman, have just published a co-edited a book in the Swedish language about advanced family nursing practice using “health promoting conversations” with families.
