Florinda Galinha de Sá, PhD, MSc, RN, is an Adjunct Professor at Lisbon Nursing School in Portugal. She coordinates the family nursing program for undergraduate students and has incorporated simulation in her scholarly work in family nursing education to improve skill development in family nursing therapeutic conversations. Her professional experience in emergency nursing and her family mediation skills inform her work in critical care and prehospital master and doctoral student’s projects that focus on family witness resuscitation and family conferences. She is also collaborating in an international study that focuses on migrant family functioning and a national study focusing on family nursing undergraduate education.

Tammy Neiman, PhD, RN-BC, PHN, is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing, College of Allied Health and Nursing, Minnesota State University Mankato (USA). She is involved in family nursing education, research, and practice. She teaches the introductory family nursing course in the undergraduate program and integrates family throughout all three courses and clinical experiences.  Her research is focused on nurses’ experiences with palliative care in the acute care setting and school nurses’ experiences working with transgender and gender diverse students and their families (research team: Dr. Laurie Sieve, Dr. Nic Rider, Nicole Molesky, and Louise Sternberg). She also examines nurses’ experiences working in the COVID-19 pandemic and how the pandemic has impacted nurses’ inclusion of families (research team: Dr. Sandra Eggenberger, Dr. Pat Beierwaltes, David Clisbee, and Lynn Kuechle). She also works in the acute care setting as a staff and charge nurse, where she includes families in the care of patients to strengthen their ability to have positive outcomes when they are discharged from the hospital.

Mirinda Brown Tyo, PhD, RN, TCRN, is an Assistant Professor, College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (USA). She is new in her faculty role but has 20 years of experience including emergency nursing, leadership, and clinical education. Dr. Tyo’s program of research focuses on resilience and family caregivers. At present, she is collaborating with Dr. Melissa Desroches and Dr. Shelley Zhang as Co-PI for an internal seed grant to identify factors that promote resilience among direct support professionals during COVID-19 for intervention development. She also received a pilgrim grant from the university in collaboration with Dr. Mary McCurry for an E-Delphi study to explore the needs of family caregivers of individuals with substance use disorder.

Dr. Tyo teaches graduate-level pharmacology and undergraduate medical-surgical courses. She threads the concept of family nursing throughout her courses. Most recently, she has incorporated family member roles for undergraduate simulation using unfolding case studies.

Chandler Johnson, BSN, is a recent graduate from the College of Nursing, Minnesota State University, Mankato (USA).  Her research focuses on end-of-life care conversations with family members of people with dementia (PWD). Her research was inspired by the nursing program’s focus on family-centered nursing and mentor Kristen Abbott-Anderson’s experience and contribution to the Alzheimer’s community. Chandler is looking forward to incorporating the knowledge she has gained through her research into her future practice.
