Frank Kiwanuka Focuses on Family Nursing in Intensive Care Units

Frank Kiwanuka is a PhD student at the Department of Nursing Science, University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio. His research focuses on family nursing in intensive care units. He has studied and disseminated findings about nurses’ perspectives on family nursing practice and family importance in care in African intensive care settings (Imanipour, M., & Kiwanuka, F., 2020). He has conducted a Bayesian hierarchical model to explain overall family support based on data gathered from family members. This model introduces a preliminary precision-dependent theoretical framework to guide family support interventions. He is currently developing a nurse-led intervention that utilizes family strengths to identify resources and help families develop and call forth strengths, mobilize and use resources, and regulate the input of these resources. Frank holds a Bachelor of Nursing Science and a Master of Critical Care Nursing and has over six years of nursing experience. He is also an adjunct at Clarke International University.
