Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the University of Witten/Herdecke in Germany have established a new doctoral program which includes funding for 12 PhD students, and 2 postdoctoral students for 3 years. The research focus has been identified as “FamiLe ─ Family health in the lifecourse”. The goal of the research group is to gain deeper insight into the role played by families in health promotion and the management of illness and long-term care. Taking a lifecourse perspective, the faculty and doctoral students are exploring how families deal with health, illness, and long-term care in different phases of the lifecourse and family history. The PhD research projects will focus on health and health behaviour during the family formation phase, the management of illness/long-term care in families, and on families in the end-of-life phase of individual family members. The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
