Jing (Cherry) Ning, RN, BSc, (Nurs) PGCert (Crit Care), is an early-career nurse researcher who is passionate about patient and family-centered care (PFCC) in the intensive care unit. Her most recent work includes a mixed-method research study exploring family needs and experiences of waiting in the intensive care unit (ICU) waiting room. Cherry is currently enrolled in an educational program (Higher Degree Research) at Murdoch University in Western Australia, Australia. With her background as an ICU nurse for almost 10 years, her research is focused on clinicians’ attitudes towards family involvement in adult ICU. She is exploring perceived barriers and enablers using hermeneutic phenomenology.

Simon Stones is a fourth-year postgraduate researcher undertaking his Ph.D. in Healthcare at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He has a rich and varied background, with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences, the experience of working in medical communications/strategic consultancy, and as a multi-award-winning health advocate for people living with chronic conditions. Inspired by his own experiences, Simon is a passionate believer in supporting children and young people to become proud and competent self-managers, with the support and encouragement of their families, which has formed the central focus of his doctoral thesis. Simon went on to start his postdoctoral career in 2021 as Medical Writer in a biopharmaceutical company. He believes that research belongs to everyone, including young people and families, who have a right to get involved in research, and access research findings in a way in which is accessible and relevant.

Simon is an active member of the IFNA UK/Ireland Chapter.

Tahani ALShammari, RN, MSN, is currently a PhD student at The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, USA. She was previously a lecturer at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. Her research focuses on parents of children with Type 1 diabetes (T1D).  Her research goal is to mitigate these parents’ uncertainty in illness, improve their quality of life and better understand the daily challenges they face related to the management of their child’s chronic condition. In the future, she plans to conduct a pragmatic randomized control trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a health education intervention to address uncertainty in illness and improve the overall quality of life in parents of children with T1D.

Willyane de Andrade Alvarenga, RN, MN, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Centro Universitário Santo Agostinho, Brazil.  She is also a researcher at the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing, Brazil – Research Group in Nursing Care Provided to Children and Adolescents (GPECCA). She recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship about the family experience of perinatal death in the Centre for Studies and Research on Family Intervention (CERIF) at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, Quebec, Canada. Her current program of research focuses on the psycho-socio-spiritual health of vulnerable families, including families living with HIV, childhood chronic health conditions, and grief. Her objective is to improve the health and well-being of families and the care of vulnerable families based on explanatory and intervention models.
