Ana Canga Armayor, PhD, MSc, RN, is an Associate Professor of Older People Nursing and Family Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing and Deputy Director of the Department Nursing Care for the Adult Person at the University of Navarra, Spain. She is also an investigator with the Navarra Institute for Health Research (IdiSNA).  Her research focuses on understanding and intervening with families experiencing a chronic illness. She conducts research with families caring for a dependent elderly family member as well as families living with Alzheimer’s disease. She and her colleagues are currently examining the effectiveness of a Family Systems Nursing educational intervention guided by the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models with practicing nurses who support families caring for a family member experiencing chronic illness. Suzanne Feetham, PhD, RN, FAAN, has held clinical, research and leadership positions in academia, health systems (Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC), the Federal government (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Nursing Research (Deputy Director and Chief of the Office of Science Policy, Planning and Analysis) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Her career has focused on health care to families and underserved populations and health policy.

Dr. Suzanne Feetham received an honorary degree from Wayne State University in 2016 which recognized her foundational leadership in the development of family nursing and in the conceptual and methodological issues of research with families.  For Dr. Feetham, the honor was even more meaningful coming from Wayne State where she was mentored by Harriet Werley , Virginia Cleland, and others who were influential in her career as a nurse scientist.  A video from the 2016 Wayne State University convocation is available on the IFNA YouTube channel.  Please watch minutes 26-32 of this video to see Dr. Feetham receiving the honorary degree and listen to her response.
