Updated January 2023
Three research clusters have been organized by the IFNA Research Committee.

IFNA Research Cluster: Translational Science in Family Nursing
Members of the IFNA research committee identified a need to explore literature related to knowledge transfer and translation in family nursing. The plan is to review literature that will inform translation and implementation science in family practice. A literature review has started. A current goal has been to describe current definitions, family variables, and family unit interventions. This research cluster is seeking to recruit members. If interested, IFNA members should contact the chair of this cluster, Sandra Eggenberger.

IFNA Research Cluster: Defining Family Nursing
The IFNA International Collaboration Subcommittee of the Research Committee assembled a small writing group to address the challenge of Defining Family Nursing. In this group, scholars from across the globe investigated the many ways in which family nursing is defined. The group formed in October 2017 and has held web-based conference calls every two weeks since that time. Their proposed output is a manuscript that will be submitted for publication. The content of their document is based on data from a survey of the IFNA Research Committee that was conducted in 2015 and incorporates family nursing definitions in current IFNA Position Statements. The manuscript also incorporates the IFNA Position Statements. This research cluster seeks to contribute to the advancement of family nursing science and policy by establishing an evidence-based definition of family nursing. IFNA members of the Defining Family Nursing Research Cluster who are involved in the data analysis and manuscript writing represent Australia, Denmark, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Purpose statement
The Family Care in Acute and Critical Illness Research Cluster brings family nurse researchers from across the globe together who share an interest in engaging and supporting families who experience acute-critical illness. In line with the mission of the International Research Collaboration Sub-Committee, the research cluster provides an opportunity for family nursing researchers from around the world to interact regularly, plan, conduct, and disseminate collaborative research projects.
