Norah Johnson, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, is a pediatric nurse practitioner and an associate professor with tenure in the College of Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA. She is involved in interprofessional teaching, research, and service focused on children with complex and chronic diseases such as autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities and their families. Her work relates to the ways health care providers must adjust care and decision making to account for the variable developmental, sociocultural and contextual factors that influence child health and development for families.
A frequently cited publication developed from her doctoral dissertation – Autism: Parenting Stress, Family Functioning and Health Related Quality of Life (2011, Families, Systems and Health), presents significant findings related to the differences between mother’s and father’s perceptions and expectations about family functioning and recommends these differences be explored when working with families of children with ASD.
In addition, she has developed a copyrighted iPad app to prepare research study participants with autism for magnetic resonance imaging and patients for medical procedures available at no cost at the Marquette University online Apple store.
