Maureen Leahey, RN, PhD, is the recipient of the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Maureen has shown outstanding ability to create and disseminate knowledge about caring practices with families experiencing illness at local, national, and international levels through the co-development of two generalist practice models for family nursing known as the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models. Her ability to cross disciplinary boundaries related to family focused practice while leading mental health program delivery in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for three decades allowed her work to have sustained positive impact in Nursing. Hundreds of families in Alberta, Canada have benefited from her clinical mentorship and knowledge about skilled practice to families experiencing illness and thousands of families around the world have been cared for by nurses who use the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models to guide their curiosity and compassion for families and their courage and competence to address families’ illness suffering.
