Dr. Peeranuch (Pim) LeSeure, PhD, RN, is an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth College (UMassD) of Nursing and Health Science. With over 25 years of experience teaching and conducting research at Payap University’s McCormick Faculty of Nursing in Thailand, Dr. LeSeure brought expertise in adult and gerontological nursing, focusing on improving self-care management among people with diabetes to UMassD.
In Thailand, she conducted a health promotion program to enhance knowledge and self-care practices for diabetic patients in the community, emphasizing the importance of family involvement. Recognizing the high prevalence of diabetes among Portuguese and Portuguese descendant populations in Massachusetts yet limited research on this group, Dr. LeSeure now focuses her work on exploring diabetes self-care management and developing a mobile application tailored to the specific cultural needs and values of this population. Using a user-centered design thinking methodology, she developed the app to provide culturally relevant to support self-care management. Individuals with diabetes may need to learn more about online sources of diabetes supplies as a part of their self-care management.
Expanding beyond self-care management, Dr. LeSeure also examines social determinants of health, family involvement, and self-management among Portuguese Americans with type 2 diabetes. With her extensive background, Dr. LeSeure aims to advance self-care management and increase family involvement for people with diabetes–her research advocates for improved support that empowers individuals with diabetes and leverages family engagement to enhance quality.
