Intima Alrimawi, PhD, MSN, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, USA. She has more than eight years of experience in nursing education and 17 years of experience as a registered nurse working with children and in the public health sector. Her research focuses on underserved populations, including children, families, and low-income communities. She has a specific emphasis on child protection and improving health outcomes for low-income families and racial and ethnic groups that experience higher rates of health disparities. Her master’s research focused on improving nursing competency in detecting and reporting cases of child abuse, and her doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on home injury prevention in young children. Additionally, Dr. Alrimawi’s research focuses on childhood obesity and chronic and terminal diseases in children. Such research is needed to address health inequalities and to develop nursing skills in this context. She also aims to develop health policy and improve healthcare quality in these areas. Her secondary research interest is in nursing education, and she aims to promote optimal outcomes in nursing education.
Dr. Alrimawi has received numerous awards for her work, including the 2018 Virginia Nurses Foundation 40 Under 40 Award for the Outstanding Emerging Nurse. In 2022, she received the Highly Recommended Designation-Pittu Laungani Award for one of her papers that was published in the International Journal of Health Promotion and Education. She also received the Excellence in Education Award from Sigma Epsilon Zeta Chapter in 2023.
