Dr. Christine English is Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of Clinical Governance and Quality at St Oswald’s Hospice and Associate Lecturer, Northumbria University, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Christine is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Christine has held senior leadership positions within clinical practice, education, and research and her work has always focused on improving care quality for children and families. She is currently engaged with some exciting projects at St Oswald’s as they work to become a research-active hospice. The hospice provides outstanding care and a wide range of services including a ‘focus on living’ service for adults, a lymphoedema service, in addition to palliative, end of life care, and bereavement support. Their children and young adults service offers short breaks, palliative and end-of-life care for children, and young adults with progressive, life-shortening conditions.
Christine has a keen interest in improving care through education and is a co-author of PMM-Nursing http://www.pmmonline.org/nurse, a free to access, evidence based e-resource providing up-to-date information for student nurses, qualified nurses, and other health care professionals caring for children and young people with rheumatological conditions and their families. The site is popular and is endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing.
Christine is active in the IFNA Education Committee. She is also an Executive Committee member of the IFNA UK and Ireland Chapter and is currently taking a lead role in growing the membership.
