The IFNA Practice Committee would like to recognize and celebrate the work and life of Kathryn Hoehn Anderson, PhD, ARNP, PMH, PHMCNS-BS, LMFT, and acknowledge the major contributions she made to family nursing and the work of IFNA.
A Professor and Director of the Center for Nursing Scholarship and Research in the School of Nursing at Georgia Southern University, Kathyrn was licensed as a psychiatric-mental health ARNP and as a marriage and family therapist. She developed the Family Health Systems Approach family nursing theory, which is used as a foundation for health departments, texts, and in student dissertations and theses.
Kathyrn was a founding member of IFNA and served as the co-chair of the IFNA Practice Committee since 2011. She took a lead role in driving, with passion and commitment, the development of the IFNA Positions Statements on Generalist Competencies for Family Nursing Practice (2015) and the Advanced Practice Competencies for Family Nursing (2017) as well as the IFNA Response to the Global Refugee Crisis: Caring for Refugee Families. Kathyrn championed the core values of IFNA: to embrace a compassionate family focus on health, social justice, human dignity, and respect for all.
We celebrate Kathyrn’s leadership, vision, and passion to improve the health and well being of families and the care of vulnerable families. Her generous nature, warmth of personality, and ability to bring people together from around the world have been echoed in the tributes made by those who knew and had the privilege of working and spending time with Kathyrn.
We will miss Kathyrn and are grateful for her myriad contributions to family nursing and IFNA, but most of all for her friendship.
