Dr. Karen LeGrow is an Assistant Professor in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Faculty of Community Services, Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She teaches Family Health in the 4th year of the undergraduate program and Seminars/Practicum in the Professional Advancement of Nursing in the graduate program using arts-infused teaching methods based on a Practice Development model.
The goals of Dr. LeGrow’s program of research are to develop and nurture a innovative program of research, which is oriented in Pierre Bourdieu’s Logic of Practice (Bourdieu, 1990, 1991; Swartz, 1997) that: 1) critically examines the specific mechanisms by which “place” affects health and how it influences parent-health care provider relational care practices, specifically communication and decision making practices, for children with complex health care needs across the continuum of care, and 2) identifies and strengthens causal inferences, particular to “place” that leads to identifying potential avenues for intervention. This new knowledge will inform best clinical practice guidelines, parent-health care provider partnerships and education, future research queries, and health policy for this unique population of children and their families.
Dr. LeGrow presently serves as a member of the IFNA Nominating Committee (2015-2016) and will step into the Chair role for 2016-2017. For more information contact IFNA member, Karen LeGrow.
