Agatha M. Gallo, PhD, RN, APN/CPNP, FAAN, is a Professor Emerita at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing, USA, in the Department of Women, Children and Family Health Science. Her clinical work as a pediatric nurse and pediatric nurse practitioner led to her 30 year career as a distinguished family nursing researcher. She has collaborated with Dr. Kathleen Knafl, Dr. Janet Deatrick, and Dr. Denise Angst on NIH funded grants focusing on family response to childhood chronic conditions using family, qualitative and mix methods. She is currently collaborating with a research team who is conducting randomized controlled trials testing the effect of an Internet-based primary prevention educational intervention (CHOICES) for young adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) or sickle cell trait (SCT). The long-term goal of this research is to help young adults with SCD or SCT make informed reproductive decisions. Dr. Gallo was nominated for an 2015 IFNA Excellence in Family Nursing Award.
