Akiko Araki, RN, MBA, DNSc, is the Director of Nursing, Chiba Rehabilitation Center, Japan. She has long advocated for families who have children with physically severe disabilities. She recently initiated a change in the nursing intake process at Chiba Rehabilitation Center to ask families the “one-question question” about the family’s expectations for care. Chiba Rehabilitation Center actively accepts guests/visiting scholars who are interested in nursing care and rehabilitation for people/children with disabilities (for more information, see Dr. Araki’s email below).
Dr. Araki is a member of a Japanese research team who are exploring the beliefs of families who have children with disabilities. Her earlier research has focused on promoting mother-child interaction in the context of disability and developing nursing interventions that address parental stress and healing. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Japanese Association for Research in Family Nursing and Board of Directors of Japan Rehabilitation Nursing. She is a member of the IFNA Nominating Committee. She also serves on a committee of the Japan Society of Child Health Nursing who is developing a policy proposal related to Child Nursing.
