Dr. Petra Brysiewicz, PhD, is a Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing & Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Her scholarly work focuses on advancing the development of emergency care in South Africa and across the continent of Africa. Her program of research includes the psychosocial implications of violence and injury. Dr. Brysiewicz leads the Family Support Care Research Group developed with her colleagues Dr. B. Bhengu and Dr. Chipps. She is the Principal Investigator of a project which aims to develop an in-hospital psychosocial intervention for families of critically ill trauma patients who have been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit.
