Dr. Laurie Gottlieb, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, is the author of a new book, “Strengths-based nursing care: Health and healing for person and family“. This book was awarded the 2013 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year award and won FIRST place in the Education, Continuing Education category. Dr. Gottlieb organized an inaugural conference featuring Strengths Based Nursing: Practice Education, and Leadership in November 2013. The conference was co-hosted by McGill Ingram School of Nursing and the nursing departments of three teaching hospitals in Montreal – the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, the Jewish General Hospital, and the McGill University Health Centre. The one day event attracted over 500 participants and another 200 joined the conference via the Internet. Keynotes were offered by Dr. Patricia Benner, noted educator and author, and Dr. Judith Shamian, President of ICN. Dr. Gottlieb and Dr. Benner co-authored a recent blog post about this topic.
