Funding Renewed for Family Health Doctoral Program in Germany

The German Ministry of Education and Research has offered funding for a second three-year term of the doctoral program, “Family health in the life course”, offered by the University of Witten/Herdecke and the University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrück, Germany. The program was first established in 2012. The second round of funding indicates the good work that has been performed by students and faculty during the first three years. Twelve PhD students and two post-doctoral researchers are working on individual research projects related to the role and function of families in health and illness. In addition to the phases of the life course of families, the second round of funding takes into account critical life events, social determinants of health, the meaning and significance of new family forms, and patterns and the role of the family in service utilization.
